Jim Rihn Memorial Award

  The James Rihn Memorial Plaque was initiated in 2001 and first presented during the Kids at Heart show at Schulenburg, TX.  The intent was to recognize extraordinary efforts by a KaH member to help mentor other owners and exhibitors. 

  Jim Rihn had been active in Pygmy goats for many years following his retirement from his nursery business in San Antonio.  After his retirement, he experimented with several hobbies but found none fulfilling.  During a chance visit to the San Antonio Zoo, he came upon the petting zoo.  It was all over.  He decided the lovable Pygmy goats would become his kids. 

  Jim loved his goats and the people who bred and showed them.  His warm personality encouraged others to begin and continually improve their herds.  His generous and caring contributions to furthering the improvement of Pygmy goats through mentoring new members led to the inception of this traveling award.

Eligibility   Current Kids at Heart member

Qualifications   Demonstrate sustained and exceptional interest in mentoring others in the care and breeding of quality Pygmy goats.

Period of Award   In general, the award was intended to be made annually.  However, the primary consideration is that the candidate be well qualified.  The plaque should not be awarded more frequently than annually and may not be held for more than two years.

Awarding   The current holder of the award should nominate a candidate either in person during a regular meeting or by notifying the President who presents it for a vote. Any member can nominate a candidate and the membership will select a winning recipient by majority vote.
